‘Commissioning Editor: Biotechnology’ for Data in Brief
Data in Brief is seeking for a ‘Commissioning Editor: Biotechnology’ for a period of 6 months starting, ideally, January 1, 2022.
Elsevier’s Open Access and peer reviewed journal Data in Brief (DIB) provides a way for researchers from all fields to easily share and reuse each other’s datasets by publishing data articles, with the aim of promoting discoverability, reproducibility and collaboration. The journal launched in 2014 and has grown rapidly since to become one of the largest open access journals published by Elsevier and now receives more than 3,500 data article submissions and 2 million unique downloads annually.
As a ‘Commissioning Editor’ for Data in Brief your duties will include:
1) Scouting for suitable datasets from repositories/preprint servers in Biotechnology such as bioRxiv, medRxiv, NCBI, EMBL-EBI, and miRBase.
2) Send invitations to authors to convert their datasets into a data article (approx. 50 emails per week) via mail merge using Editorial Manager.
3) Maintaining a record of invitations and reminders sent as well as received responses.
4) Reply to queries from authors.
5) Provide monthly updates to the Managing Scientific Editors and/or Publisher of Data in Brief.
Skills required:
1) PhD completed (or finishing up)
2) Organised, clear communicator, efficient, fluent in English and diligent approach to working.
Commissioning Editors are paid a stipend of EUR 3,000 for the duration of the contract (six months). Anticipated workload is approximately 4 hours per week.
