Scientist/Senior Scientist, Synthetic Biology - Gene Vector Design - Kano Therapeutics

Overview

Kano Therapeutics harnesses the power of DNA nanotechnology and synthetic biology to design and engineer novel gene vectors. Our goal is to expand the reach of genome-editing-based therapies through the development of transformational biomaterials. Instead of innovating around the messenger (gene delivery systems, gene editing tools), we start by innovating around the message - the DNA vector that carries the genetic information.

Position Profile – Scientist/Senior Scientist, Synthetic Biology - Gene Vector Design

This is an excellent opportunity if you are excited about taking on a technical role at an early-stage startup and using cutting-edge science to expand the reach of gene editing technologies. As a key early hire at Kano Therapeutics, you will have an essential role in the design and creation of the company’s gene vector platform, ensuring that functionality, quality, and performance metrics are met. You will implement the latest genetic engineering innovations and own the process of scaling product development from benchtop manual processes to a multiplexed, high-throughput platform system.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work independently and a part of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate gene vector designs using our patented technology

  • Create experimental workflows and collect quantitative measurements for engineered synthetic DNA molecules

  • Organize and document experiments, genetic designs, and data and communicate methods and results with other scientists, industry executives, and academic researchers

Background and Experience

Kano Therapeutics seeks an extraordinary synthetic biologist for the development of transformational single-stranded genetic vectors. A successful candidate will have experience in biotechnological process development, project management, and a broad technical understanding of biological engineering, ideally plasmid manufacturing and recombinant protein production.

Specifically, his/her/their background will include:

  • Demonstrated abilities in plasmid vector design, recombinant protein production, and purification

  • Familiarity designing and constructing gene vectors using state-the-art cloning techniques

  • Deep understanding of molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques

  • Experience in data analysis, process safety management, and hazard mitigation
