Scientist/Senior Scientist, Process Development - Microbiology - Kano Therapeutics
Overview
Kano Therapeutics harnesses the power of DNA nanotechnology and synthetic biology to design and engineer novel gene vectors. Our goal is to expand the reach of genome-editing-based therapies through the development of transformational biomaterials. Instead of innovating around the messenger (gene delivery systems, gene editing tools), we start by innovating around the message - the DNA vector that carries the genetic information.
Position Profile – Scientist/Senior Scientist, Process Development - Microbiology
This is an excellent opportunity if you are excited about taking on a technical role in an early-stage startup and using cutting-edge science to expand the reach of gene editing technologies. As a key early hire at Kano Therapeutics, you will take on an essential role in design and implementation of the company’s bioengineering process, ensuring that functionality, cost, quality, and performance metrics are met. You will implement the latest scientific, engineering, and manufacturing innovations and own the process of scaling product development from research batch production to clinical-grade at scale.
You are the right candidate if you have a passion for early-stage startup culture and are ready to be a defining team member. In this role, you will be leading the transition from batch to continuous reactions/production as well as scale-up operations. You will develop a decision framework to identify optimal process steps and will be responsible for process design decisions.
Key responsibilities will include:
Design, build, and test innovative bacterial fermentation and downstream processing platform for therapeutic products
Create and execute on experimental workflows, set up in-line quality control assays, industrial process development from automated small-scale to scaled solution
Creation of quality management plan including metrics for monitoring process control
Background and Experience
Kano seeks an extraordinary bioprocessing engineer for the development of transformational single- stranded genetic vectors. The right person will have a consistent track record of working in new product development, process development, project management, and a broad technical understanding of biological engineering, ideally plasmid manufacturing or bacteriophage production.
Specifically, his/her/their background will include:
Ph.D. in related field OR 5+ years of industry experience
Experience with recombinant protein production and purification
Skilled in microbiology and fermentation engineering, including upstream and downstream process development e.g. TFF, LC
Demonstrated abilities in process safety management, including process hazards analysis and mitigation
